With Kuykendall’s, every litter is a priority, and we limit litters to one or two a year. We believe in responsible breeding and want to ensure every puppy is healthy and cared for. Puppies undergo regular health tests to ensure they have no health issues. Puppy socialization is a key part of raising puppies and should be respected by any responsible and experienced breeder. By socializing each puppy with other dogs and humans, they quickly adapt, and their behavior changes naturally. Puppies undergo basic training while under our care. Breeder standards should include preparing each puppy for its eventual home and for making the transition seamless. Our Border Collie program is limited to one or two females at a time, meaning we’re always working with limited litters. We do our due diligence to speak thoroughly with anyone interested in our Border Collies to ensure they have a good environment for the puppy to grow up in. Beware of Unvetted Breeders

To find out if you’re in contact with a vetted breeder, look for signs that they truly take care of the puppies. An experienced breeder will provide each puppy with a health screening. Unlike an experienced, ethical breeder, an unvetted breeder may have multiple puppy litters at a time. Commonly referred to as puppy mills, some breeders maximize the number of puppies over their health and safety. Unethical breeders may request payment very early in the process, before even disclosing details about the puppy. When breeders happen to have the exact puppy you’re looking for, color and sex, and the puppy is already available for purchase, this is a red flag. When meeting a puppy, be sure its parents and other puppies from the litter are present. When puppies are taken from their litter at a young age, it’s a sign they may not be in the most nurturing or safe environment. This can also be a sign that the dogs are being bred in a large facility and are brought to fake locations to appear like a legitimate breeding business. Any signs that your breeder may be mistreating the dogs are a sign you should end your communication with them.

Goose dogs are highly specialized companions that are designed to work! Border collies thrive in working environments and receive a lot of enrichment from completing tasks. Because of their intelligence and natural inclination to activities, they make excellent working dogs. We have a custom training program for Border Collies that will be utilized as goose dogs. Our thorough training program involves intensive socializing with adults, children, strangers, and other animals. Puppies must be socialized early if they are going to be working in public environments. On our 85-acre facility, we train the dogs to herd animals and to follow commands with urgency.
